Ernest Carignan Obituary

CARIGNAN, ERNEST A. JR., 71, of Woonsocket, passed away January 15, 2012. He was the husband of Charlotte A. (Poehler) Carignan, whom he was married to for 51 years. Born in Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest, Sr. and Della (Kolis) Carignan. He was employed by Bergh Brothers of Attleboro Falls, MA for 38 years and retired from Mason Box Co. in North Attleboro, MA in 2004. Ernest was a member of the Italian Workmens' Club and the St. Joseph's Veterans Association. He was also an Honorary Life member of the Woonsocket Elks Lodge #850. Ernest was involved with and served as the chairman for the Elks Children's Fishing Derby for 23 years. He served as the Elks Local Chairman and the State Elks North District Chairman for the Hoop Shoot program. Ernest was the State Elks East District Chairman for their soccer program and was the State Chairman for the past year. He had previously served as the RI State Elks Youth Activities Chairman. Besides his wife, Ernest is survived by his daughter, Lynn Lemieux and her husband Lionel, of Woonsocket; his son, Marc Carignan and his partner Paul Ramaglia of Johnston; two grandchildren, Jessica Martley and her husband Christopher of Woonsocket and Matthew Lemieux of Woonsocket; two great grandchildren Aiden and Emily Martley; and two brothers, Lawrence Carignan and his wife Carol of Woonsocket and Kenneth Carignan and his wife Annette of Florida. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 9:00 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Second Ave. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the funeral home. www.holtfuneralhome.com
