Ernest Gaines Obituary
Born February 5, 1971 in Brooklyn, New York, a son of Gaines Ernest Johnson Sr. and Idella (Hightower) Johnson of Warwick. He had been a resident of the city for 27 years. Gaines enjoyed taking care of plants and animals, including alligators, fish & dogs.
Gaines was a graduate of Alternate Learning Project High School. He also served the Job Corps 3 years getting degrees in underwater welding and culinary arts. He was a security officer for Blackstone Valley Security and was a member of Harvest Outreach Ministries in Providence.
Besides his companion and parents, he is survived by one brother, Tydell Johnson of Providence, one nephew, Tychan L. Johnson of Providence, one niece, Tyre L. Johnson of Providence, and maternal grandmother, Dotharie Hightower of New York, New York, one step brother & a host of step sisters.
The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street; viewing begins at 10 a.m. Burial will be in North Burial Ground.

For the short time that I have know EJ and his family, I have grown very fond of them all. EJ educated me a lot about life. I had the opportunity to be there with him during good and bad times. EJ showed me what it is to be a true fighter and a strong individual. I thank him for letting me have a part of his life. My regards go out to everyone who has true love for EJ. EJ is finally at rest and we will see him again. Della, Ernest and Tydell my prayers are with you.
