George Cooper Obituary
85, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020. He was the husband of Ann Biderman Cooper, and the late Mary (Lillis) Cooper. He's also survived by his nine children and nine grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services and burial will be private. Visit hillfuneralhome.com for complete obituary and online condolences.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, East Greenwich Friday, December 18 at 10 a.m. You may participate in this mass through a live stream at www.olmparish.org.

He was an amazing surgeon with a beautiful spirit. Im not sure what we will do without him. I worked with him many years ago. I then became his patient. Im not sure who to turn to now. He is irreplaceable.

Dr.Cooper was well respected by all who knew him. He always took the time to listen and have a funny story to share.
We who worked with him were so fortunate to have known him, certainly Kent Hospital is a better place because of people like him.

I am saddened to hear the news of Dr. Cooper's passing. Being a former member of the Open Heart Team at RIH, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Cooper for several years. His dedication and caring manner to his patients and the surgical team will not be forgotten. I wish to extend my condolences to the Cooper Family.

Dr Cooper was a true inspiration and influence in my early medical school training at RI Hospital. In later years he was always available to help a patient even when his colleagues passed on them. That commitment, focus and compassion taught me so much. Thank you!

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Cooper at RIH for many years. He was always smiling, treated everyone respectfully. He knew everyone on a first name basis always making people feel valued. He had a comical side to him that was unique to him. Dr. Cooper carried himself with dignity, however he was a very down to Earth person. He will be missed by many. RIP my friend.

Dr. Cooper was an absolutely wonderful man and physician. I was a patient of his several years ago and was extremely impressed with the time and care he gave me as well as the time he spent keeping my wife informed. I wish there were more doctors like him. I met Doctor Cooper on the job as a service tech at his office. We loved talking about basketball especially when March Madness came around. He will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the entire Cooper clan, including Cecilia, Mary Clare, Maureen, George, Lorraine and Roseanne, all of whom I knew personally. I had the pleasure of meeting George, Dr. Cooper's son, when they moved from Edgewood to East Greenwich. I distinctly remember entering the Mariner House (now Nautika's), on Water St. for George's bachelor party and his father, Dr. Cooper, welcoming me with a smile and addressing me as the 'lefty' pitcher. He knew how to make you feel welcome. Many fond memories at the Queen's Grant homestead, also, like playing basketball in the driveway and street hockey with the exchange students from Canada, eh? Come sail away on 'Coop's Sloop.' Rest in Peace Dr. Cooper. Trim the mainsail and let out the jib.

About 40 years ago I met the Coopers. I feel honored and blessed to have such a lovely past together. George always believed in me no matter what I was involved with, be it photography, landscaping or holistic healing. I have great fondness for Annie, Caroline and Jonathan and hope that we never loose touch. Georges leaving left a great void in this world here on earth but filled a huge chasim above. My love and prayers to all of you Coopers and all who loved George.

I only met Dr. Cooper in February of this year when I chose him to perform some minor vein surgery on my leg. I immediately knew I had made the right decision...he certainly made an impression on me that will last a lifetime. I am so very sorry to see that he has passed. What a gentleman...God Bless his family as you all begin the journey of building cherished memories to brighten your days ahead. My deepest sympathies to you.

So very sorry to hear of the loss of "Doc" as I referred to him. He was a fun guy with whom to discuss almost anything from sports to politics and mostly sailing. A unique man!

Please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolences. I was fortunate to work with Dr. Cooper at RIH operating room for many years and he was always kind and had something nice to say to everyone. My favorite memory was when he would ask a young resident to spell “paraphernalia “. I don’t think anyone ever got it right.

I worked with Dr Cooper for many years at Kent County Hospital and have kept in touch with him since he “retired”. He never really did retire. A more delightful guy would be difficult to find. He will be sorely missed.

I had the privilege of providing anesthesia care for many years to George's patients. He was a talented surgeon but an even better person. Never angry, always even-keeled when under pressure in the OR, George was beloved by his hospital colleagues. He was a great story-teller and had an infectious love of life. Sending along my condolences to his family but also with the message that George's life was full and well-lived.

So sorry for your loss. Besides being a great Doctor, and respected colleague to my late husband, George was my Saturday morning church buddy. We shared many good conversations about life, faith, medicine and of our home State of New Jersey! He expressed such care and concern to me during my husband’s illness and his passing which brought me great comfort.

Dr Cooper was a lovely man. He operated on my son 20 years ago for a collapsed lung. He was the one who finally diagnosed my sons health problems. Alpha one antitripsan deficiency. He was a kind , gentle and caring man. I will always appreciate what he did for my son.

I admire the way George lived every day. His intellectual curiosity never ceased. His spirit and his thirst for knowledge never got old. He was strong and principled, in a nonjudgmental manner. He was an open-minded clinician fearlessly advocating for his patients at every turn. He was resolute in advancing the science and the art of medical care. On top of all that, a good guy whose company I enjoyed deeply. I count him as a colleague and a mentor. Peace to his family. He will never be forgotten.
