George Lacas Obituary

LACAS, GEORGE W., 89, a lifelong resident of Providence, passed away April 29, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Anna (Caito) Lacas. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Roseanne (Porier) Lacas. George was employed by Meyers Brothers for 30 years until his retirement in 1987. He was also a parishioner of St. Augustine's Church in Providence. He was especially proud of his 65 year marriage to his loving wife, and of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a gentle and extremely kind man whose delightful personality and beautiful smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving children George Lacas and his wife Marilyn of Warwick and Annemarie Hoopis and her husband Richard of Lake Forest, IL. He was the cherished grandfather of Marilyn Santomaro and her husband Philip, Richard Hoopis and his wife Amy, George Lacas and his wife Kebra, Robert Hoopis, and Melissa Lacas, and 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, 5-8 p.m. with a funeral on Friday at 10 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence, followed by burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Philip Hulitar Home & Hospice Center, 1085 North Main St., Providence RI 02904. Condolences to all of Uncle George's family. George always had a bright smile and a good word on his parking block at Dorrance and Weybosset....master of the impossible parking challenges in the center of town. Always a shout of recognition, a saved parking spot, he took care of his regulars. He would shoehorn you in with a knowing glance when you were running late....in the sun, in the snow and in the rain. A friend in all seasons....
