John D. Holdsworth
HOLDSWORTH, JOHN D., 77, died January 16, 2006, in Foster. He was born December 23, 1928, in Foster, the son of Arthur O. and Margaret (Hanscom) Holdsworth.

John was raised on the family farm, and graduate from Coventry High School. He was an army veteran of the Korean War. He returned to Foster and worked for the Local Dairyman's Trucking Company for many years, which was co-owned by his father. He later worked for Davis Transportation, and eventually for the North Scituate post office until his retirement in 1999.

John was an avid pilot, co-owning and operating the RICON airport in Coventry, RI. He maintained his avtive pilot's license until his death, loggin many flight hours across the country. A quiet man with strong convictions, he loved nature, wildlife and considered himself more a steward, rather than an owner, of the family property.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, Deborah Holdsworth of Foster, John Christopher of Rehoboth, MA, Russell Holdsworth of Harmony, Jane Christopher of Foster, Rick Munroe of Knoxville, TN, Linda Munroe of Warwick, Jody Holdsworth of Castro Valley, CA and Ghent Holdsworth of Caribou, ME; several great nieces and nephews, one great great nephew and many wonderful and loyal friends. John was predeceased by his parents, his brother Harold 'Bud' Holdsworth; his sister, Margaret Holdsworth Dickey; his brother, Arthur S. Holdsworth and a niece, Jane Holdsworth.

Friends may gather Saturday, January 21, at 12:30 p.m. at his farm for a celebration of John's life. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the South Foster Fire Department or the Foster Ambulance Corps.

To Deborah, Russell, and all the family of John Holdsworth, I extend my deepest sympathies and sincere condolences.

So many who knew John hold fond memories of him. He was such a very good and gentle man.

What a great guy. When I was young, put me on a horse and took me up in his airplane. While in the plane, he let me pilot - that just the type of person he was. Just another great soul gone on to greener pastures.
