John Rabbitt Obituary

RABBITT, JOHN W., of Pawtucket died Wednesday February 6, 2008 at Epoch on the Blackstone, Providence, the day before his 85th birthday. He was the husband of the late Nancy (Sullivan) Rabbitt.

Mr. Rabbitt was born in Pawtucket, a lifelong resident, the son of the late Joseph E. and Irene (Glavin) Rabbitt.

He attended Providence College and St. Anslem's College in New Hampshire where he played basketball. Mr. Rabbitt was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII, a supervisor for the City of Pawtucket, a former President of the Pawtucket City Council, serving the third district from 1964-1973, and Chairman of the Pawtucket Board of Canvassers from 1972-1986.

Mr. Rabbitt owned and operated, with his brother Joe, Rabbitt Brothers Overhead Door Company for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin J. Rabbitt and his wife Janet of Pawtucket, John K. Rabbitt and his wife Nancy of Seekonk, MA, a daughter, Joyce R. Clinton and her husband David of Wrentham MA, a brother Joseph Rabbitt and his wife Helen, five grandchildren, Jillian Reig, Kyle Rabbitt, Lauren E. Rabbitt, Jenna and Jared Clinton and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Stephen and John W. Rabbitt Jr.

The funeral for Mr. Rabbitt will be Saturday at 10:30 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME 68 Broadway, Pawtucket with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa's Church, Newport Ave. at 11:30am. The burial will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends are invited. The calling hours for Mr. Rabbitt will be Friday 4-7pm in the funeral home.
