Judith McSoley Obituary

McSOLEY, JUDITH S. (CERVINI), age 69 passed peacefully on July 28, 2016 as the morning sun was rising and a red cardinal was singing outside her window. She was surrounded by family and friends who provided a circle of love and comfort during her final journey home. Judith was a strong, kind, funny, compassionate and intelligent woman who spent her life caring about her children, her grandchildren and the children of Rhode Island. She held numerous positions at social service organizations including the Smith Hill Center and Children's Friend and Service. For the past fifteen years, Judith worked at Adoption Rhode Island, where she held numerous leadership positions, helped hundreds of foster children find permanent loving families, supported adoptive parents and raised awareness and advocated for the safety and well-being of thousands of children. One of her biggest accomplishments was developing and overseeing Rhode Island's Heart Gallery project. Judith has received numerous recognitions including the 2015 Congressional Angel in Adoption Award presented in Washington, DC by Congressman Jim Langevin. Judith had a mission to give kids a chance at life and to provide hope and healing to those that need it. Judith lived that mission up until her last day as countless individuals sought her counsel and felt her support. Judith was a devoted wife and an amazing mother, but her true calling was as Nonna-she loved her grandchildren more than anything in this world. They gave her the will to fight and brought tremendous joy to her life. Judith believed that all children deserve to experience positive childhood memories. This is something she incorporated into her work and family life. Even during her most difficult final weeks, Judith sent her grandchildren to camp, sponsored shopping trips, helped organize birthday parties, recorded stories, listened to their songs and provided the opportunity for the grandchildren to play together and have fun. Judith's favorite way to spend the day was sitting on the beach with her husband watching her grandchildren swim and collecting heart shaped rocks. Judith leaves a legacy of hope and beauty and a commitment to improving children's lives. Her light will forever shine brightly. Judith was born in Providence to the late Carl Cervini and Charlotte (Jackson) Caplette. Judith lived in Stoughton, MA, Coventry, Edgewood and had resided in Warwick since 2004. She is survived by her devoted husband, Matthew D. McSoley and was the beloved mother of Michael J. Martini, Christopher A. Martini (Vanessa), Amy E. Leclaire (Michael), Sarah A. Martini-Ricci and Jessica K. McSoley. She was the prideful Nonna of Henry, Samuel, Benjamin and Sophia Leclaire, Harrison, William and Jackson Ricci, Brian, Matthew and Allison Rapoza and Myles and Luca Martini. Judith loved her sisters and brother, Cathy Torres, Marie Kaminski, Sue Frament and Carl Cervini. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 9:30 am from the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Michael's Church, 239 Oxford St. Providence. Burial in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. The visiting hours will be Tuesday, August 2nd, 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Judith's name to Adoption Rhode Island, 2 Bradford St. Providence, RI 02903. Information and condolences, visit thequinnfuneralhome.com.
