Kai Gong Obituary

GONG, KAI FEE age 68, of Pawtucket RI, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Moy) Gong for forty-four years. He was born on August 3, 1944 in Tai Shan, Guangdong China, the son of the late Kwong Tun and Shui Kam (Mui) Gong. He emigrated to the United States at age 14 and settled with his family in Providence. He graduated from Hope High School and received his B. Sc., in Electrical Engineering at the University of Rhode and his M. S. in Electrical Engineering from the university later on during his career. Mr. Gong was an electrical engineer at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport, RI. He was dedicated and well-respected and provided numerous research and development contributions to the US Navy, retiring in 2000 after 32 years of service. In retirement, he was an avid gardener and enjoyed the practice of Tai Chi. He provided sage financial advice to his family, was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, and devoted grandfather to his 8 grandchildren. He lived his life with the highest integrity and was always true to his values. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Edward Gong (Elizabeth Champagne) of Seekonk, MA; and David (AnnMarie) Gong of Cranston, RI; his daughter Kerry (Tuomo Harjula) Gong of Canton, MA; his sister Melissa Dong of Vancouver, B. C.; and brothers Fai Kong of Newton, MA, and Bing Gong of Medfield, MA, 8 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 8th at 10:00 a.m. from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux & Son, 1042 Newport Avenue. Burial will follow at Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Harrison Avenue, Warwick.
