Dr. Kevin J. McBride of Durham, NC died peacefully September 23, 2014 at the Hock Family Pavilion. He was 63 years old. Kevin was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Francis J. and Helen R. Donovan McBride on May 26, 1951.

Kevin was raised in Rocky Mount, NC and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He then received his Masters in Psychology from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, and finally, his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from North Carolina State University, with a specialty in Forensics.

Kevin began his career with the North Carolina State Bureau of Prisons. He then transferred to the United States Department of Justice where he served in Atlanta, GA and Butner, NC. He also maintained a private practice serving at risk youth.

During his life Kevin was able to devote time to extensive travel, visiting over 50 countries. He was an avid tennis player and runner, and enjoyed fishing. He also chose to dedicate time to his faith and service to the community. He attained 4th degree knighthood and was elected Grand Knight of the Saint Matthews Knights of Columbus, Durham NC. Kevin's gentle soul quietly touched so many lives and he will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Kevin is survived by his son, Yogeshwaran Mani McBride of Tamil Nadu, India; his sister, Maureen "Mo" McBride and husband, Mark Bradley, of Wake Forest, NC; and brothers, Patrick McBride and wife, Jessica, of Pace FL; and Brian McBride and wife, Dawn, of Smithfield, NC.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from St. Matthew Catholic Church with Father Robert Diegelman, pastor emeritus and chaplain to the Knights of Columbus, presiding. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dr. Kevin J. McBride Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1001 Mason Rd., Durham, NC 27712.
