Melvin was an instructor for apprentice aircraft metalsmiths in the Wing Shop at Naval Air Rework Facility Quomset Point during the early 1950s. He was my instructor. I could name twenty other apprentices who learned their trade from Melvin. Many went on to fill important Naval Aviation civilian positions across the United States. I enjoyed speaking with him in 1998 at the first reunion after twenty-five for former Quonset Point employees.

"Perhaps they are not stars but rather openings in heaven where the love of those who have passed, shine through to let us know they are happy."
May your love and memories keep him alive in your hearts for eternity.
