Mike was first and foremost husband, father and grandfather. He loved to report the latest antics of Sonny and Calvin- I do think being a grandpa was Mike's fondest role. Mike's kids filled him with joy and pride- they have not had the easiest of lives, but each has found a niche where they are happy and productive. Of course, Mike knew how lucky he was to have married Cindy- she stood with him through thick and thin.
I was lucky enough to be Mike's doctor serving him for many years. We became good friends. When Mike was down, I'd ask how Sonny or Calvin was doing and he'd perk right up. Mike loved to tell stories of how hard he worked with great pride. Mike knew who he was- his strengths and his weaknesses. He shared some of his adventures down dark alleyways that few of us have ever explored- he wasn't bragging about these paths, but acknowledging that his life led him places he was happy to have in his rear view mirror. Wisdom. Mike was a book learning kind of guy, but he knew well what things were of value. He was always eager to do what was needed to help his family or make his house a better home.
I miss Mike and and thankful for all the time we spent together.

Cindy, I'm so sorry for your loss. Mike was a good person. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his conversation. He really did love you and his family and talked about you all frequently. My thoughts and prayers are with you. He will be missed.
