I had the pleasure of working for/with the Major at the Lottery. What a true professional in everything he did. The Lottery is where it is today because of the Majors vision and pioneer can do attitude. Multi State Lottery Powerball would not have existed if it was not for the Major. Good bless you Major Pete. You will always be in by thought's and prayers.

My most sincere condolences to the entire O’Connell family on The Major’s passing. He was an extraordinary man with a wonderful manner and along with his beautiful wife Fran lit up the room whenever and wherever they entered. May God hold them in His eternal love. My prayers will always be with them.

In my 16 years of public service my appointment of Pete was one of the best I ever made. As the first Director of the Lottery I wanted a bright, no-nonsense leader with unquestionable integrity. Someone who had the courage to handle whatever came at him. The Lottery was new to our government and I knew that the right first director director could set the course for others to follow. I was at a very serious prison riot with Pete and Colonel stone and watched them operate. They took their guns off and went unarmed into the prison yard where prisoners were running wild with clubs, lighting fires and totally out of control. They climbed onto of an overturned vehicle and quelled that riot. Seeing that performance and with knowledge of his record with the State Police and the military I knew he was the right man for the job. He was in line to become the Colonel of the State Police but understood the importance of the Director's position. They don't make many like him. May he Rest In Peace and my condolences to the family.
