Robert Greene Obituary

Greene, Robert A.
94, of Rehoboth, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the home he and his wife built together 65 years ago. He was the husband of Marilyn (Bourne) Greene with whom he recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Alice Maud (Beals) Greene. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Rehoboth Post. Mr. Greene was a Principal for the East Providence School Department before he retired. He served as Principal at the Platt Waters School, Meadowcrest and Waddington Schools.
He was a graduate of East Providence High School, attended the University of Vermont and received his Bachelor's Degree from Boston University. He received his Master's Degree from Rhode Island College and did Doctoral studies at the University of Connecticut. While he was a student at the University of Vermont he played collegiate hockey. He was an avid golfer, member of the Segregansett Country Club for 56 years, and the founder of the Rehoboth Golf League. He was a member of Rehoboth Congregational Church, a faithful church-goer whose devotion was inspiring. Bob's vivacity for life kept him young and he could be found playing golf at Segregansett well past his 90th birthday. He and his wife loved spending time in Vero Beach and traveled there for over 20 years. Bob's final days were a testament to the family culture he cultivated, spent surrounded by those who love him. His joy-inducing laughter and genuine happiness will be missed dearly, as he leaves an irreplaceable bright spot in the lives of his family.
Besides his wife he leaves three children, Stephen N. Greene of Rehoboth, Peter A. Greene and his wife Loriann of Seekonk and Kimberly A. Silvia and her partner Gary Dennett of Norton, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Norman A. Greene.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 1-3 PM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Funeral services will be private.

To the Greene Family,
Mr Greene as I always knew him was the first male teacher I had when attending Brightridge School. He was still Mr. Greene when I saw him at Waddington when my daughter attended there. He was sure a special person to me and always remembered me as one of his former students. And always his special smile ..He will remain in my thoughts and prayers. He was the best!

It was a great privilege for me to have gotten to know and play golf with Bob at various times over my twenty years as a member at Segregansett Country Club. He was an outstanding gentleman and golfer. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him and his lovely wife, Marilyn.

He was a great partner for golf. He won more than he lost and I always enjoyed playing with him whether I played with him or against him. He will be sorely missed.

Mrs Greene and family,
I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss. Mr Greene was my first principal as I began my career at Waddington School. His very high standards made all of us be the best we could be each and every day. He also adhered to those same expectations. I thank him for everything he taught me throughout my years with him as an amazing leader.
May you comfort one another and share some happy memories of the precious years you have spent together. Thank you for sharing him with us all those years. May his memory be eternal. Denise Zavota

I worked for Mr. Greene at the A.M. Waddington as his secretary. He was a true gentleman, and a wonderful person. He was a by the book principal and I respected his work ethic, I can still see him walking the students out to bus at the end of the school day making sure they did stayed in line and respected the school property. He was the true definition of what a principal should be and he was respected by all. Hoping he is now enjoying eternal peace.

I worked under Mr.Greene at Waddington School as a first grade teacher! He walked down the corridor each and every morning to greet us in the classroom, he always had an air of authority and professional. He was an outstanding principal, I learned SO much working under him, he really taught me how to be the best I could possibly be!! His motto was always, “work hard, play hard.” Mr. Greene was the BEST of the best, he will truly be missed by all of us, a true gentleman!! May his memory be eternal!
