Serge Bouyssou Obituary

BOUYSSOU, SERGE DIDIER, 77, of Coventry, passed away peacefully on May 9th 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Lucille (Cloutier) Bouyssou

Father of Lydia O'Brien of Hope Valley, Linda Pearson of Jamestown, Elise Mulligan of West Warwick, Claudia Flanagan of Smithfield, Nicole Petrarca of Coventry, Livia Bourque of Tennessee, and Serge Bouyssou of Scituate. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren who are proud and honored to call him 'Pepere.'

Born in Oran, Algeria, on November 22, 1929, he was the son of Andre Bouyssou and Marguerite Lopez, and brother to six siblings. Serge moved to the United States at the age of 23. Upon arriving, he met the love of his life, Lucille, and began 52 beautiful years of marriage on September 4, 1954.

After studying the trade of cabinetry in Oran, he started his career in the US. With only a limited understanding of the English language, he opened his business, Clyde Cabinet, designing and building custom cabinetry. Serge prided himself on both his craftsmanship and being part of a fading breed of proprietors he described simply as 'the good shopkeeper.' Eventually he closed the cabinetry business and opened Clyde Lumber. Although he spent a great many years running his lumberyard, his heart never left his trade. He takes with him an awe-inspiring mastery of intricate woodworking.

Most important to Serge were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He absolutely loved working with his wife on their home and garden, breaking only occasionally to watch sports, or be in the presence of his family. He will be greatly missed. Serge will forever be remembered for his love, passion, tenacity and unparalleled work ethic.

Visiting hours will be at Potvin Funeral Home, 45 Curson Street, West Warwick on Monday, May 14th from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Tides Family Services, 215 Washington Street, West Warwick, RI 02893.

What a life he led and he definately left his mark in the carpentry business. He taught my husband the trade and even after we no longer did much business, we would find the time to stop in and say "hi" to Serge and Lucille. Joe is no longer with me and we got to celebrate 54 years together, mostly due to Serge being my neighbor in Warwick and my future husband working at his house putting in a dry well. Fate was on my side 3 days after my 16th birthday and I cherish those fond memories of a neighbor that brought life to another level! Rest in peace with Lucille and this is hoping his children remember those years in Warwick before the big move to their Coventry home.
