She was a much-loved art teacher in the Cumberland School System. Many of her former students enjoyed sharing their favorite art class lessons with her. Those chance encounters always brought a huge smile to her face.

Preretirement she enjoyed golfing, skiing, snowmobiling and volunteer work. Following her retirement, she began traveling around the U.S. and Europe, Iceland and South America. She amazed her traveling companions that she could begin her adventure with one small piece of luggage and a collection of versatile and colorful scarfs. One of her most memorable trips was to Rome in 1993 and a personal visit with Pope John Paul II.
She was a member of he Cumberland Garden Club, the RI Wildlife Plant Society, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council and the RISD Alumni Association.
A life-long Cumberland resident, she was born on April 2, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Alexader and Victoria Zyons.
She is survived by her loving children, Merla Lancaster and her husband Howard of Cumberland and Florida, Peter Sozek and his wife Susan of North Smithfield and Charlestown, RI. She was the loving grandmother of Shannon Linton of Shrewsbury, MA and the late Abbey Lancaster. She was the great-grandmother of Jacob and Madeline Linton of Shrewsbury. She also leaves her cherished nieces and nephews, Edward DeRosier, William DeRosier, David Zyons, Debra Howe, Laurie Wood, Mark Zyons, Ellen Tassie and Paula Larivee. She was the sister of the late Gladys DeRosier, Francis Zyons and Alexander Zyons.
