Warren Dolbashian Obituary

DOLBASHIAN, (COLEMAN) WARREN G., 35, of Briggs St., Cranston, died Sunday, December 17, 2006 at home.

Born in Providence, the beloved son of Christine A. (Dolbashian) Coleman of North Providence and the late Warren G. Coleman, Jr., he resided in Cranston most of his life.

Warren suffered from Tourette's Syndrome, and despite often overwhelming challenges, strived to make contributions to society where he could. He worked with an advocacy group to permit the use of medical marijuana and testified before the Rhode Island House and Senate in support of this ground-breaking legislation. In addition, he proposed that economically disadvantaged persons be granted the benefit of a reduced application fee for the medical marijuana card, and this stipulation was written into the bill that was passed.

Warren was a talented freelance photographer and visual artist. In 1989 he was enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design's culinary arts program and later applied his skills to various positions in local restaurants. He cared about the environment and animals. For several years, he was employed as a veterinary technician at the Oaklawn Animal Hospital in Cranston.

People who knew Warren will remember his witty irreverence and how he made them laugh. We will miss him.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his sister, Gina-Marie Montalbano and her husband Matthew of Burrillville; his grandmother, Alice Dolbashian of West Palm Beach, FL; his uncle, Paul Dolbashian, Jr. and his wife Christina of Cranston; and his aunts, Ann-Marie Coleman of Cranston, Carol Constantino and her husband Joseph of East Greenwich, and Diane Dolbashian of NY. He was the grandson of the late Paul Dolbashian and Warren G. and Mary Coleman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 402 Broadway, Providence, followed by interment in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow St., Providence, RI 02903.

I just returned from Christmas vacation and belatedly received news of Warren's death. I got to know him over the last couple of years, advocating for Rhode Island's medical marijuana law. Words seem utterly inadequate to describe what a kind, decent, compassionate guy Warren Dolbashian was. He had a sweetness about him that seemed to radiate from some core deep within. He showed great courage in speaking out about his use of medical marijuana before Rhode Island made it legal for him to do so, but -- typically -- he was far more worried about others than about himself. Hail and farewell.

To Warren and his Family,
You do not know me, but I had the pleasure of meeting Warren when I first came to Knightsville Manor. He was not the only one of the first I met, but also was so kind and always had a sense of humor that I will never forget. He never went by you without a big smile and handshake. Iam also very ill, such as Warren was, and its makes me proud to have know him for the past 5 years. He was symbolic in that he never let anything bother him, and always tried to make you feel better about yourself. Karen and I will both miss him dearly, and will only grow stronger in knowing such a pleasant gentleman. Warren, you will not be here for Christmas this year, but you will always be in our hearts.
To his Mother and family, we send this little note , in hopes it will send some comfort, the way Warren did for us. Bye my friend, and never forgotten..........................
Sincerely,
John Laurenzo

I met little Warren when he was a young boy and I always found him a very gentle boy, I am sorry we missed each other in Syracuse NY in May 2006, especially as he wanted to meet me,
Anyhow I know he had a great heart and I am very sad he passed knowing he will not be able to pay us a visit in New Jersey. Well Warren if you can see me now from where you are you'll know we are close.

Years have past
And Warren has lived
Courageously making life
A place to survive in,
Courageously smiling
Fighting the odds
Your road was not an easy one, wasn't it?
Do you remember the toys we played with in your house in Cranston?
Do you remember little Alicia and Claude, laughing with you?
Do you remenber I was defending you
When your mom was worred about your behavior?
If I had to do it again I will do it better,
But do we have another chance?
I would have taken news from you on a regular basis...
If I only had known...
I would have camped in Claude lawn in the rain, to wait for you to come back from your fishing outing...
If I only had known you wanted to see me!

Warren always made us smile. He was a kind person who was always a pleasure to talk to, When my Mom passed away this past August Warren gave me a big hug and said he was sorry to hear about her passing. But that was Warren always thinking and caring for others. Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to Warren's family and friends. Just remember he will never truely be gone as long as we remember him. Sincerely, Bob Greaves and Melissa Musco

Warren was wonderfully sweet, selfless, and humble. Thanks in a large part to his brave voice, at least 189 other seriously ill patients are able to use medical marijuana without facing arrest. I am so lucky to have known him and very sad to hear of his passing.

To Warren's loved ones,

I, too, met Warren during the time that he was advocating for Rhode Island's medical marijuana law. I drove him to the State House several times, and each time, he never failed to make me smile.

Warren was courageous, witty, and had a heart much too big for this world. His optimism inspires me to this day. I was lucky to have known him.

Warren was a courageous and effective advocate for the passage of medical marijuana legislation that continues to help so many Rhode Islanders. Warren will be missed, but his legacy lives on in the compassionate legislation that he helped to enact.

To Warren's Family:

I met Warren during his courageous efforts to advocate for medical marijuana legislation in RI. He was a passionate supporter of this initiative, and his story gained the respect and admiration of others. He will be missed.
