William Fletcher Obituary

FLETCHER, WILLIAM III "BILL" January 1, 1932- April 21, 2016 Passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack while on a cruise traveling through the Panama Canal with his best friend Bill Blauhuss. He was 84 years old and in excellent health. He was the only child of Estelle and William Fletcher. His fascinating life, both in his working career, as a social worker, and in his private life, revolved around helping other people. He was wonderfully kind and gentle with a delightful sense of humor. His pastimes were playing the piano, swimming, spending time on Bill's boat in the Pacific Ocean, road trips with is dear friend Duke, researching on his computer, and travel. He and Bill visited Australia, Hawaii, Europe. He also traveled to France numerous times with friends and family. Bill will be sorely missed by friends and family. His passing will leave a huge gap in the lives of his loved ones. He is survived by his best friends, Bill Blauhuss of Lompok, CA. and Duke Watts of Barrington, RI, cousins, Tim Haigh of VT, Janice Pierce of Amelia Island, FL, Dexter Fletcher of Vienna, VA, Sophie Echeverria and John Burden of Wickenburg, AZ. Services will be held at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 9th 2016.

Bill will be remembered by many as a "Man for All Seasons " In the years he worked for the DOD he was known by the many young families who sought his guidance and support as a person of compassion and caring.
In retirement he continued to be the Port in a storm to friends and family from the Atlantic to the Pacific. To know him is to love him

Bill was perhaps the kindest, most gentle and caring person I have ever met. He also had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh, extremely intelligent and well educated. Spending time with him was like spending a sunny day at the beach. I will miss him terribly.
