WYOMING — Joseph Louis Ciampi, 47, of Wyoming, son of Lou and Marianne Ciampi of West Pittson, passed away peacefully at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born on Jan. 14, 1968, and graduated from Wyoming Area Catholic School and Wyoming Area High School. He retired from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. Joe was currently employed by Linde Corporation as a safety director.
Joey or "Cooch," as he was known to so many, truly loved life. He was a real outdoorsman who took his pride and joy and only son, Blaise, everywhere he went. If he was not hunting or fishing, you could find him cooking up something wonderful in his kitchen.
His fun-loving way and quick wit will be remembered by many. He could tell the same story and make you laugh to tears every time.
Joe will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.
Joey is survived, in addition to his parents, by his wife, Ellen; beloved son, Blaise; and his canine companion, Scrappy. He is also survived by his siblings, Lou Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Michelle and her husband, Joe Reilly, and Jimmy and his girlfriend, Audra. His brother-in-law, Joseph Szymasek and his wife, Chris, also survive him; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as his nieces and nephews who loved him so much.
Joe's family thanks Dr. Patrick Kerrigan for his kindness and care and the nursing staff at Wilkes Barre General Hospital who cared for him.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Church, Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers or food, a donation can be made to the Blaise Ciampi Education Fund and would be greatly appreciated. It can be mailed to M&T Bank, Midway Shopping Center, 1066 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, PA 18644.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anthony Recupero Funeral Home, West Pittston.

No words of comfort can ever ease the suffering of loosing a son, sibling, father or husband. All you can do is hold fast to the many happy memories and remember the best of times. Eventually the pain will subside and the goofy, funny, happy go lucky person that Joey was will remain with you forever.

I can't even believe I am writing this. My heart is heavy and words cannot express how sorry and sad we are to hear the one and only Joe is gone. Hard on the outside but so soft on the inside. Always there for a party or when things were bad he would be the one to say I'm here what can I do. Joe, Port Bay has lost a legend and you will be missed. Our love and prayers to Ellen and Blaise.
