HARVEYS LAKE — Mary (Lauck) Metz, 72, of Harveys Lake, passed away Aug. 27, 2021, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by her husband and family.
Mary was born April 28, 1949, at Nesbitt Hospital in Kingston. She was the first of four children of Paul and Marie (Parulis) Lauck, of West Pittston. In 1967, she was part of the first graduating class of Wyoming Area High School. She went on to Wilkes University, where she completed her four-year business degree in three years. Mary spent more than a decade of her professional career at Jewelcor.
She met the love of her life, John Metz, in the '80s, and they were married in 1990. They shared a love for life and each other. She enjoyed days at the lake, sunset cruises, trips with dear friends, travels all over the world, entertaining guests, gourmet food and mighty fine wines. Being a dog mom to her beloved German shepherds was one of her greatest joys.
Her smile, warm hospitality, kindness and generosity will be missed by all of her family and friends. Her life was filled with love, blessings and many fortunes, including her love for her nieces and nephews — Emily (Gary), Sara (Chris), Melanie (Rory), Matt, Jamie (Ontario), Rose, Samantha, Bobby and Juliet — and grandchildren:Kaitlyn, Ashley and Jeffrey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother-in-law Kevin Powers.
Surviving are her husband, John Metz and his children, John and Roberta, Jeff and Susan, and Maureen and Sean; brother Paul Lauck and his wife Connie, sister Ann Powers and her brother Bob Lauck and wife Rachel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Therese's Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown, on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wyoming. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Misericordia University, at the Anderson Sports and Health Center.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mary's name to the ALS Foundation.
Arrangements by Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., Shavertown.

Metz Family,
Having heavy losses in the past year I know there is nothing that can be said to ease your pain. There is not a day that goes by that you wouldn't trade everything for one more moment. I have some comfort in knowing that my daughter is being loved by her heavenly father ( more so than I ever could) and that she is out of the daily pain she had. I know that this doesn't supply any comfort now, but in time I hope that the sadness turns to memories of joy and the hurt turns to the knowledge that one day you will see Mary again. Keeping you in my thoughts and praying God eases your pain.
