Michael David Smith, 29, of Manassas Va., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 17, 2021.
Michael was born on May 13, 1992, the son of David and Jacqueline Smith of Wilkes-Barre. He attended E.L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, and was graduated as an honor student in 2010. Michael was a three sport athlete throughout high school, lettering in baseball, wrestling and golf. After high school Michael joined the U.S. Army reserves and was discharged in 2016 as a specialist E-4.
For the past four years Michael worked for McCarthy Tire Company. In 2018 he accepted a position as the retread plant manager at their Manassas, Va. facility. Michael loved his job, always putting others before himself. He truly touched the lives of all the people he worked with, along with many others over the years.
Michael was loved by his friends, former teachers, family and coworkers for his wonderful personality. He had an infectious laugh and could put a smile on anyone's face. Michael loved working out and going to the gym. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching sports of all kinds, especially the Green Bay Packers, his favorite football team since he was a child. He adopted the culture of his coworkers at McCarthy, many of whom are from El Salvador. He became fluent in Spanish, developed an interest in soccer, which he loved to watch every week, and had a great love of their food. His respect and admiration for all of his coworkers, his "amigos," was tremendous.
Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandmothers, Dolores DePasquale Melore and Justine DePasquale, both of West Pittston, and his paternal grandmother Gertrude (Geppie) Smith, of Mountain Top.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are his brother and sister-in-law, John and Dakota Williams of Carbondale, his sister Sarah Smith of Kingston, his paternal grandfather Henry F. Smith Sr. M.D. of Mountain Top, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday Oct. 25, at 9 a.m., from Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William St., Pittston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's memory to The Salvation Army, 60 Hill St, Wilkes-Barre PA, 18702. Online condolences may be made at www.adoniziofuneralhome.com.

It was a blessing to get to know Michael at The Salvation Army. He was always willing to volunteer to do Scripture readings in Sunday Chapel services.
He was a wonderful young man who will be greatly missed. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
