ALLENTOWN — Robert E. Serafin Sr., 93, of Allentown, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at the Phoebe Home in Allentown.
Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Plains Township, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Lewandoski) Serafin. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Hertus) Serafin, who passed in 1997.
He had 35 years of service with the U.S. Army. He served as a medic and military police during World War II. He also served as a criminal investigator during Vietnam and Korea and was stationed in Thailand and Germany as a criminal investigator. After retiring from the Army, he worked as the head of security at the Hotel Bethlehem.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Berlinsville. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football; he was a devoted Braves and Notre Dame fan.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. and his wife, Tina Serafin, Slatington; daughters, Elaine, wife of John Haury, Port Orange, Florida, and Roberta, wife of Ronald Heiser, Slatington; a brother, John Serafin, Plains Township; four grandchildren, Jennifer Pugh-Stephens, Alyson Serafin, Shelby Serafin and Kyle Heiser; and one great- granddaughter, Sarah Stephens.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana McCarthy; and a sister, Helen D'Agostino.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Schisler Funeral Home Inc., 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton. A viewing will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, all in the funeral home. Interment will be in Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, c/o the funeral home.

Uncle Bob always had a quick smile, a funny story and an engaging laugh. Along with my mother, Helen, he was a child of the Great Depression and a member of the Greatest Generation. In a word, he was great.
