WILKES-BARRE — William Rabinowitz, 92, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019.
Born March 20, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ida Rabinowitz. He graduated from Meyers High School and attended Temple University and Wilkes University. He resided in Wilkes-Barre his entire life.
William was a member of Temple Israel, where he was very active, served on the board and was a lifetime member. He was honored with a Citation of Appreciation for his distinguished and exemplary service there. He was also a member and treasurer of the Men's Club at the Jewish Community Center. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific. He worked as a businessman and was owner of Barre Motors, Fashion Beauty and Alert Beauty Supply.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Rabinowitz; and sister Shirley Fortinsky.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Kornblau Rabinowitz; sons Jay and his wife, Mindy, of Denver, Colo., and Jeff, of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Lindsey Rabinowitz, of Oakland, Calif., and Eric Rabinowitz, of San Francisco, Calif.; and sister Sylvia Schwartz, of Mexico.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, in Temple Israel Synagogue, 239 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre.
Shiva will be observed 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Temple Israel.
