Atha K. Boggs

Atha K. Boggs, 99, of State College, passed away on July 23, 2021 at the Wynwood House State College.

Born June 11, 1922 in Pleasant Hall, PA, Atha was the daughter of the late John and Ella Alverta Kaufman. She married Joseph Boggs, who also preceded her in death, on December 12, 1946. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings; and was the last remaining offspring of John and Alverta Kaufman.

She is survived by two children, Beverly Susan Mullen (Gary) of State College and Kathy Jo Cook (Joseph) of Naples, FL, one grandchild Grant D. Cook (Jensen) of Raleigh, NC, and two great-grandchildren Austin Zane Cook and Abigail Paige Cook of Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Paige Elizabeth Cook.

Atha was a 1942 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School where she was described as "perky, short and snappy". She was a long-time member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Pleasant Hall, PA where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was a lady with a strong faith in God who prayed and read the Bible daily. She attended the church service held at Wynwood House the Sunday prior to her passing.

Atha was a talented seamstress, a teacher's aide, and a homemaker. However, her favorite vocation was that of being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a role model for loving parents; and her family reciprocated that love.

The family would like to thank the staff at Wynwood House for their love and care during the past three years of Atha's residency at their State College location.

Beverly & Kathy, So sorry for the loss of your mother, she was a wonderful women. I was the housekeeper at Wynwood and always looked forward to seeing your Mom. We would sit in her room and talk and laugh and eat the yummy cookies Kathy would bring in. I had the pleasure of driving your Mother to a couple of doctors appts and we would talk, talk, talk and laugh, laugh, laugh. Again sending my sympathy to both of you. We all know she is in the arms of our loving father. What a special lady.
