Gordon Brookens Obituary

Gordon Brookens, 94 of Fayetteville passed away at home on Monday, October 24, 2011. He was born December 15, 1916 in Fayetteville. He was the son of the late Frank D. and Ida (Mae) Brookens. He was a long time member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. A farmer most of his life, he also worked at Penn Dot until he retired in about 1982. He was active for many years with the Fayetteville Athletic Association.

He is survived by four sons, Frank "Gordy" Brookens (Sally), Dennis M. Brookens (Beverly), Thomas D. Brookens (Christa),Timothy D. Brookens (Judy), one daughter Penny A. Brookens; four stepchildren Kay Heavner, Larry Beck, Evelyn Dale, Kenneth Beck; 11 Grandchildren Randy Brookens, Annette Brookens (szady), Julie Brookens, Jimmy Brookens, Andy Brookens, Travis Brookens, Ashley Brookens, Emily Heck, Lacey Brookens, Maggie Brookens, Molly Brookens and ten great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Margaret Rossman Brookens (1982) and his second wife Ruth Monn Brookens (2009), a step daughter, Peggy Beck Riggings (2004) eight brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home with the Pastor Mike S. Baumgardner, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. There will be a visitation at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church 61 West Main Street Fayetteville, Pa. 17222, or to Fayetteville Athletic Association 99 West Main Street Fayetteville, Pa. 17222.
