J. Myers Obituary

J. Lester Myers, 84 a resident of Providence Place Chambersburg since December 2011 and formerly of Letzburg Rd. Greencastle, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at Providence Place. He married Marilyn L. (Barrick) Myers on May 7, 1949. Born December 16, 1928, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Joseph Lester and Emma (Keefer) Myers. Lester was employed for many years as the parts manager at Shively Motors of Chambersburg. In his younger years he also had an orchard business. He graduated from Messiah Academy in Grantham, PA and had also attended school in Greencastle. He was a member of the Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church near Mercersburg where he served on the church board and as a trustee. Lester enjoyed hunting, tractor pulls and NASCAR racing where he was an avid Richard Petty fan. He also enjoyed many years of eating lunch with the Dinner Gang in Chambersburg. Surviving family, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Marcilyn M. (husband Barry) Sipes, Greencastle, four sons, J. Edward Myers and life partner Lisa Houck of Fort Loudon, David Myers and life partner Diane Grimsley of Grand Junction Colorado, Jeff Myers and wife Carol and Ray Myers and wife Wanda, all of Greencastle, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one sister Dorothy Sider of Canada. He was preceded in death by an infant son, one sister and three brothers. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 24 at 11 a.m. from the Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church 6727 Montgomery Church Road Mercersburg with Rev. Dennis L. Ritchey officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Lutheran Home Care and Hospice 2700 Luther Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17202.
