Clare Mittereder Obituary

Clare Marcella Mittereder, 83, of Punxsutawney, with her work in this world finished, went home to be reunited with her husband, Aloysius, and son Greg, on Thursday, June 4, 2015, while a guest at the Williamsport Home, Williamsport.

Clare was a proud graduate of Little Flower High School in Philadelphia. She met her future husband, Al, while he was a student at the Philadelphia College of Optometry. After their marriage on Jan. 27, 1951, they moved to Punxsutawney, where Dr. Mittereder took care of the vision needs of the town for over 50 years, and Clare began her life's work of raising her family.

She was a longtime member of Ss. Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church and most recently of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Williamsport. A feisty and extremely independent little lady who sometimes showed her Irish temper, she rarely met a stranger who did not become a friend. She loved her family above all else and made sure that every family celebration was a special event. She will be sadly missed by all.

Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Clarence and Marcella (McNally) Jenks.

She is survived by three sons, Mark (Jean Pyon) of Clifton, Virginia, Carl (Brenda) of Middletown and Steve (Joanna) of Murrysville; two daughters, Linda (Ken) Rebuck of Rogers, Arkansas, and Diane (Steve) Sholder of Williamsport; a daughter-in-law, Peggy (Charlie) Judy of Powell, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and another eagerly awaited great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, Aloysius, son Greg and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Jenks and Jack McNally.

A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Clare will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating.

An interment service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, Punxsutawney.

Following the chapel service, the family will receive friends at The New Anchor Inn, 466 Harmony Road, Punxsutawney.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2015, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Saints Cosmas and Damian Elementary School, 205 N. Chestnut St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, or a charity of one's choice.
