- United States Army - 1987-2021 With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our cherished Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend, Evan Benjamin Spindler. Evan now resides in a place where there is no pain or suffering. He is in the Lord's Heavenly Home with his dear sister Brooke Marie Spindler. Born on December 14, 1987, in Torrance, California, to John and Cathi Shimmin Spindler. He was their third and youngest child, the baby brother of Adam John Robert Spindler. Little Evan was an adorable baby and when he was very young, Evan displayed a great deal of joy and humor. As he grew, it was clear that he was quite the little gentleman and a remarkable person. He was very polite and conscientious, pulling the chairs out for family members at holiday gatherings warming the entire room with his smile. He was sweet, kind, and considerate. He attended Hickory Elementary School, just down the street from where he lived, and then Torrance High School. During his high school years, Evan lettered in football and played the trumpet and trombone in his school's jazz band. He was in the graduating class of 2006. Following high school, Evan's path leads him to the prestigious New Mexico Military Institute. While there, he earned his Associate of Arts Degree. In addition to becoming a cadet, he was awarded not only the Best New Cadet but also the Best Cadet of the Year by his peers. He graduated in 2008. He continued his academic journey to New Mexico State University earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Evan also received a Silver ROTC medal and was commissioned 2nd LT. He was then assigned first to Fort Jackson, then to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and then to Fort Sill. His next stop was Kuwait and Baghdad, returning to Fort Lewis-McChord where he ultimately rose to the rank of Captain. Evan's next educational step was achieved at Chapman University on base at Fort Lewis where he earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration. Prior to his passing, Evan was accepted into the Chapman Doctorate program. In Evan's spare time he loved to snow ski with friends and family at June and Mammoth Mountain, as well as wake boarding and jet ski on boating vacations to Lake Havasu. Evan was a proud American and passionately supported his Brothers in Arms and the Wounded Warrior Project. He was a respectful and responsible gun owner. This loving and happy young man lent a helping hand to any and all in need, and adored his family and friends. His kindness, goofiness, grit, impeccable work ethic, and most importantly his unfailing genuine soul, will be sorely missed. Evan is survived by his adoring parents, John and Cathi Shimmin Spindler, Lake Havasu City, AZ and his loving brother, Adam John Robert Spindler, Rolling Hills Estates, CA. Caring grandparents George (Bud) and Polly Spindler, Torrance, CA. His aunts Susan Shimmin Okey, Shingle Springs, CA, Elizabeth Lowerison, Westminster, CA, and Chris Spindler, Sisters, OR. Uncles Michael Okey, Shingle Springs, CA, William (Bill) Spindler, Sisters, OR, William Lowerison, Newport Beach, CA, and Ralph Lopez, Westminster, CA. Cousins Kate Okey, Shingle Springs, CA, Brett, Emma, and Elise Lowerison, Westminster, CA, and Grant and Garrett Spindler, Aptos, CA. All services for Evan Spindler will be held at Green Hills, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Visitation takes place at the Green Hills Chapel Sunday, July 18 from 4:30-8:30 pm. The funeral will be held at the Green Hills Historical Church on Monday, July 19 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Evan would truly appreciate that any memorial gift be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project. *The above was composed by Evan's cousin, Kate Okey.

Cousin, First and foremost I give my utmost love and respect to you and the ones close to your heart. You came from one of the most loving familys this world will ever know. My childhood is full of so many beautiful memories of your younger life from Christmas at Grandma's and Grandpas house to Easter Sundays searching for eggs with our cousins. Your service and dedication to our country speak of True character, may your strength and honor live on in our hearts and minds. I will await the day when I am called home to the feet of Jesus to stand beside you family and wrap my arms around you again. You are my hero Evan! The world has lost a great Man and needs a hundred more just like you. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Can't think of much to say nor say words you cannot see me speak right now since you are now resting in peace. However, as one your buddies who was used as an idol in memes for laughs, such as "the Armaraptor", I will compose a phrase/statement in your book that will always remain and be remembered by me and everyone here. It's to thank you for your time and company. "Evan you are now in Heaven, Benjamin Franklin can share his inventions with you, and your Spindler will go on Schindler's list as a meme." I salute you! -Armen

Cathi, John and Adam: Andrew and I were at breakfast last Saturday. We're still in the neighborhood and he mentioned Evan, wondering what he was up to. Thinking of the old Hickory days and hanging out with Carberry's. Those were good times. We are so very sorry to hear about Evan. Please know you all have been in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Evan - You are a Hero in my eyes, and God has called you home to be a warrior for our "one" family in Eternity. Your incredible journey here during your life has greatly enriched those who will miss you. The love you shared with your family and everyone you met, as well as those who spent time with you touched us all - you will never be forgotten. To this end, my beloved nephew, I will always remember time well spent with you during the holidays, at Sunday dinners at Papa´s and Granma´s house, and time at the lake where you and Adam embraced your cousins with care and playfulness. I hold a particularly fond memory of one trip where the Lowerison´s and Spindler´s all hung out in Laughlin for the day - you with patience and sincerity of heart adopting our nation´s flag and bald eagle as your mantra forever embodied in your heart, mind, and soul. What an amazing young man you were then, and as you continued your life in your vocation your family and friends became very proud of your achievements and your life´s successes. I submit below my prayer for the repose of your soul, and for the peace your family and friends deserve knowing you are in a good place with God. God is mercy, and in his justice and love He provides all to us through His Son transmitted to us by the Holy Spirit. "Desire nothing for yourself, either good or bad. For yourself, want only what God wants. Whatever it may be, if it comes from his hand, from God, however bad it may appear in the eyes of men, with God´s help [and His mercy] it will appear good, yes very good, to you." (St. Josemaria Escriva, The Forge (London/New York: Scepter, 1988), p. 40, No. 42 (partial). God loves you Evan, and so do I. God bless, Uncle Dave

Evan was such a fun kid and grew into a stellar young man. The love he had for his GI Joe grew into a deep love for his country and a desire to serve. Thank you Evan. You bleed red, white and blue! Evan had more integrity in his baby finger than most of us have in our entire bodies. I believe Evan´s priorities were God, country and family. God must be bursting with pride to welcome Evan into the Throne Room. Until we see him again, he will be greatly missed by us.

The saddest news to hear about my dear, loving and goofy cousin Evan. All of my fondest childhood memories involve Evan and all of our cousins, and it was hard not to have a grin in his presence. This is a challenging time for our family, but Evan I just love you so much and know you´re in God´s hands now. You will be missed sorely and live on in my heart. And to my aunt, uncle and cousin Adam, Cory and I are here for you in whatever you need and love you infinitely.
