- United States Army - 1987-2021 With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our cherished Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend, Evan Benjamin Spindler. Evan now resides in a place where there is no pain or suffering. He is in the Lord's Heavenly Home with his dear sister Brooke Marie Spindler. Born on December 14, 1987, in Torrance, California, to John and Cathi Shimmin Spindler. He was their third and youngest child, the baby brother of Adam John Robert Spindler. Little Evan was an adorable baby and when he was very young, Evan displayed a great deal of joy and humor. As he grew, it was clear that he was quite the little gentleman and a remarkable person. He was very polite and conscientious, pulling the chairs out for family members at holiday gatherings warming the entire room with his smile. He was sweet, kind, and considerate. He attended Hickory Elementary School, just down the street from where he lived, and then Torrance High School. During his high school years, Evan lettered in football and played the trumpet and trombone in his school's jazz band. He was in the graduating class of 2006. Following high school, Evan's path leads him to the prestigious New Mexico Military Institute. While there, he earned his Associate of Arts Degree. In addition to becoming a cadet, he was awarded not only the Best New Cadet but also the Best Cadet of the Year by his peers. He graduated in 2008. He continued his academic journey to New Mexico State University earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Evan also received a Silver ROTC medal and was commissioned 2nd LT. He was then assigned first to Fort Jackson, then to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and then to Fort Sill. His next stop was Kuwait and Baghdad, returning to Fort Lewis-McChord where he ultimately rose to the rank of Captain. Evan's next educational step was achieved at Chapman University on base at Fort Lewis where he earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration. Prior to his passing, Evan was accepted into the Chapman Doctorate program. In Evan's spare time he loved to snow ski with friends and family at June and Mammoth Mountain, as well as wake boarding and jet ski on boating vacations to Lake Havasu. Evan was a proud American and passionately supported his Brothers in Arms and the Wounded Warrior Project
