Gerald "Jerry" Snyder Jan 26, 1929 - Sept 30, 2021 Gerald "Jerry" Garrison Snyder was born January 26, 1929, in Inglewood, CA. He passed away on September 30, 2021 in Torrance, CA. He grew up in Inglewood attending St. John's Catholic School, Oak Street Elementary School, George Crozier Junior High School, Inglewood High School (class of 1946) and El Camino Community College. Jerry married the love of his life, Eileen Donohue (IHS class of 1947) in 1950 and together they raised three children: Dennis, Gail and Chris. In July of 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, trained at Camp Pendleton as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, and served with the 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, in the Korean War from 1952 through 1954. Post-war Jerry and Eileen moved to Torrance to raise their family and he joined the Torrance Police Department where he served for 29 years. Upon retirement he continued to serve his community on the City of Torrance Traffic Commission and on the board of directors for the Torrance City Employees (now Torrance Community) Credit Union. Jerry was a 59 year member of the Torrance Elks Lodge #1948. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, photography, travel and spending time with his family. Jerry is survived by his son Dennis Snyder (Mary Shuford), daughter Gail Harris (Bruce), son Chris Snyder, grandson David Harris (Sarah Clark), granddaughter Carla Harris (Lucas Rigg), and great grandson Hunter Harris. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eileen, parents George and Matilda Snyder, brothers Bill Burns and Jack Burns. A memorial service will be held at Rice Mortuary 5310 Torrance Bl.,Torrance on Friday November 5th, at 11am, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.

I sure do remember Jerry Snyder -- lived in that light green house on the corner. I used to walk that neighborhood and we had many conversations back in the late 1980's. Really sorry to hear he passed.
