James Hector Obituary
James Robert Hector (74), born in San Pedro in 1942 passed on December 31, 2016. James was raised in San Pedro, attended the First Baptist Church; and after graduating from SPHS in 1960, he began working for the Continental Can Company on Terminal Island until the plant closed years later. He also worked as a telephone systems installer for a private contractor in the South Bay, and remained living in San Pedro until his passing. James was an avid bowler with more than one perfect 300 game. He was also a staunch fan of all sports- and especially loved horseracing. He could quote endless facts and details about horseracing, baseball, and other sports. He knew volumes of facts about musicians and music of the 1950-1970s. He is survived by many friends gained over his lifetime, and family including his sister Judy Sumich, his niece Elisabeth Sumich, and nephew David Sumich. He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred & John, Sr., his brother John, Jr., and his nephew Gregory Sumich. He was a regular at several local sports bars, and his enthusiasm and and good-natured personality will no doubt be missed by those who knew him. Our condolences to the family. James "Hector" was a good friend who always had a great outlook on life. He always took the time to listen to ones problems and was always willing to give advice. For all this I am externally grateful to have a friend like you. Hector we miss you sitting in you're chair by the end of the bar you would always greet us and always say goodbye.
