Julian R (Jay) Bockserman, originally from Galesburg IL, passed away peacefully in his Palos Verdes home on May 24, 2021, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Sylvia, and daughters Sara Bockserman Covelli, Julie Garcia (Mike), Lori Bockserman (Mark Wilson) and grandchildren, Jared Garcia, Chloe Hilles, Hannah Garcia and Noah Hilles. He was 84 years old.

Son of Anne and Bertram Bockserman, Jay found a passion and love (Sylvia) in his high school marching band. He was a proud drummer in the Marching Illini while attending University of Illinois ('58) before joining the Navy and serving as communications officer aboard the USS Yorktown.

While Jay was stationed in Long Beach, high school sweetheart Sylvia moved west to take a teaching position in nearby Garden Grove. They married in 1960 and raised three daughters on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. For Jay, his family was his pride and joy. Many weekends and holidays were spent hosting pool parties and barbecuing in the backyard for friends and family.

Jay was a CPA who began his career at Touche Ross then went on to become Controller and Chief Financial Officer of Diagnostic Products Corporation, taking them public and extending their international reach.

In his later years Jay enjoyed traveling the world with his best friend Sylvia, taking numerous trips to 6 continents. But when grandchildren came along, he gladly exchanged his passport for a FastPass and relished his role as a doting grandfather.

His finals days were spent with family sharing stories, songs, and love.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jay's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
