RICHARD GLOOR Obituary

3/13/1929 – 1/26/2019

Richard (Dick) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family following several years of ill health. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1929, he was Valedictorian of both his high school and the Speed Engineering School at the University of Louisville. He was in the Navy ROTC at U. of L. and saw much of the world on his summer cruises on the USS Midway. He was on active duty from 1951-54. While attending the Naval Electronics School in San Francisco in 1952, he met the love of his life, Patti Bolton, and they were married in 1954 on Treasure Island, or as Dick called it, "an island in the Pacific." They immediately moved to Boston, MA, where Dick earned his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering at MIT.
While at MIT, he was recruited to join Ramo-Wooldridge Corp. in Los Angeles, which became TRW. Dick spent his entire career of 35 years in the Aerospace Industry there from 1955 through 1990. He felt great pride working for such an outstanding company and enjoyed the many interesting job opportunities he was given.
The hobby he pursued the longest was genealogy, which he started at age 15 and continued into his 80's. He also liked to help others in their pursuit of family lines. He was a member of several genealogical societies and did extensive work at the local Mormon Temple, as well as in Salt Lake City. His family lineage is now archived there.
Dick and Patti enjoyed living in Rancho Palos Verdes for over 60 years raising their daughters and building a wonderful group of friends. Starting in the 1980's they took to traveling the world via 45 guided tours and cruises, as well as countless travels in the U.S. They spent a week in beautiful Yosemite Valley annually for over 50 years.
Dick and Patti were both life-long Methodists. After being married by a Methodist Navy Chaplain on Treasure Island, they attended the beautiful old Methodist Church near Harvard Square while at MIT, and the Methodist Church in Westchester for the first year back in California. When they moved to the Peninsula in 1957, they joined the Riviera Methodist Church in Redondo Beach which they attended for 50 years. They have now been members of Rolling Hills United Methodist Church for 12 years.
Dick is survived by his wife, Patti Gloor; daughters, Nancy Schott and Diane Gloor (Paul Kobielus); and grandson Chris Schott (Kate), and granddaughter Katie Schott.

I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. Please find peace and comfort in Psalms 119:76.

Mr. Gloor recruited me from college in 1979 to work at TRW. I worked there for almost 35 years. He was a very good man. I remember most the pride he had in his employees.
