Ruby Stacy Layton

1921 - 2012

On December 22, 2012, Ruby Stacy Layton went to live in heaven with her beloved husband, John, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Ruby was born to Nannie (Stewart) and John David Stacey on May 3, 1921. Growing up in Kentucky until the 1940's, she moved to Tennessee, then Detroit where she became a Stouffer Girl, waitressing in their large dining rooms in both Detroit and New York City. In 1951 she vacationed in California, and loved it so much, she decided to stay. Living and working near the strand in Hermosa Beach until she met John, who was the love of her life. They married and bought a small home in Redondo Beach, where she remained for over 60 years.
In the mid-1950's Ruby worked for Hughes Aircraft and in 1960 she and John were blessed with twin girls. She enjoyed being a homemaker and a seamstress, staying home, taking care of her family, raising her girls, and welcoming many friends along the way. She was a founding member of The South Bay Mothers' of Twins Club, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lawndale. She will be missed by all.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Amber Layton Fowler (Kerry), of Bakersfield CA, and Amaris Layton Ratajesak (Jerry), of Oceanside CA, three grandchildren Johnny Wheeler, of Bakersfield CA, Justin Fowler, of Bakersfield, CA Jerrine Cochran of Torrance, CA and one great-grandson, Erick Bert of Torrance, CA.

Dear Amaris and Amber,
Both of you were very blessed to have such a wonderful mother who loves our Lord. She is a warm, caring and hospitable person who made me feel welcome in her home. I realize she will make me feel just as welcome in her heavenly home. Ruby and her generation were not only united by a common purpose but also by common values—duty, honor, economy, courage, community service, love of family and country, and above all…responsibility for oneself. The virtues that she possessed are highly valued and speak volumes to later generations (Proverbs 31:10-31). My generation and the ones that follow have the opportunity to remember and listen to the quiet voices of her generation that speak to us of sacrifice and accomplishment. She was an accomplished mother and homemaker.
I think of both of you, praying and trusting that the Lord's peace and comfort will be with you and your family as each day passes.

I will always remember Ruby and have a great place in my heart for her. She took wonderful care of my brother and I when we lived next door to her and John in the late 70's.

Mrs.layton was like my other mom . I met the Layton when I was 7 Amber was 8 . She and Mr Layton made me feel like one of the family. I will never forget the Sunday morning breakfast . But the deal was I could stay the night and have that wonderful breakfast if I was to go to church on Sunday, well of course I would. Then Amber on our stools would wash , rinse and dry the dishes. I could go on with all our story's but that would be 40 some years . Mr and Mrs Layton are together again forever .

I didn't know Mrs. Layton personally, but I knew her through her daughter, Amber. She had to have been a beautiful, wonderful lady to have a beautiful, wonderful daughter such as Amber. My heart goes out to the family and friends. This was a touching tribute to her.
