MOLINE-Alfred "Al" Oscar Sharp, 88, of Moline, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at his home.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2022, at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Cremation will take place following the service and anyone wishing to attend the graveside service at the Rock Island National Cemetery will meet at Esterdahl Mortuary on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 12:15 p.m. for procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline.
Al was born on May 21, 1934, in Chicago, the son of William Alfred and Nina Ruth (Hosford) Sharp. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Army from 1957-1959 in Germany. Al went on the Honor Flight with his daughter Chris as his chaperone in 2021. He married Juanita Marie Nelson on October 26, 1957, in Moline at Riverside United Methodist Church. Al was previously employed as a patternmaker at John Deere and Voss Pattern Shop. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline and had been a trustee and helped with many odd jobs at the church. Al was a member of Wesleyans Group and served on many committees. He served as Scoutmaster for a group of Army officer's sons in Germany and at Logan School. He started Boy Scout Troop 383 with close friends from the church and served as the Scoutmaster for more than forty years. He received Eagle, Woodbadge, Silver Beaver, Vigil Honor in Order of the Arrow and received Quilt of Valor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Al's hobby was building things with wood.
Al is survived by his wife, children, Michael Alfred (Laura) Sharp, Rome, New York, Christine (Jerry) McNulty, O'Fallon, IL, and Donna Sharp, Moline; six grandchildren, Jillian, Martin, Erik, Christina, Kaylee, Timothy; 5 great grandchildren, Alexa, Isaac, Matthew, Emma, Aiden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold (Mary) Sharp, Bill (Venita) Sharp, Don Sharp; nephew, Jerry Sharp; niece, Karen Sharp.

Al was a foundational pillar of troop 383 and very involved in Konepaka Ketiwa Lodge 38. In his time with the troop he mentored countless Eagle Scouts and will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
