Colette Schroeder Obituary

Colette Schroeder

June 14, 1934 - July 4, 2025

Colette Schroeder, a beloved mother, proud grandmother, and cherished member of the Rock Island community, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 14, 1934, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Leo V. and Pauline K. (Campbell) Mortell, Colette was a lifelong resident who made an enduring impact on all who knew her.

Colette started her career at the Augustana College Financial Aid department and after retiring from there she worked at Younkers, where her warmth and dedication left a lasting impression on both colleagues and customers alike. Colette's unwavering commitment to her community was exemplified by her role as a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she played an instrumental part in the church's development and growth. She was also an active member of the Alleman Alumni Association and a proud participant of the Florida Girls Group. Colette found joy in simple pleasures, including watching Jeopardy, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and, most importantly, witnessing her grandchildren excel in sports.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Tom (Cathy) Schroeder, Anna Johnson, Ed (Tammy) Schroeder, Pat Schroeder, John (Tara) Schroeder, Kathleen (Matt) Anderson, and Paul (Annette) Schroeder; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many more loving family members and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate Colette's remarkable life and the profound impact she had on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Inurnment will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in Colette's name to Alleman Catholic High School. Following the services there will be a luncheon at the church, giving time to celebrate Colette's life.

Colette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Schroeder; son, Michael Schroeder; and sister, Kathleen (Dale) Nelson.

Her love for her family and friends knew no bounds, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.wheelanpressly.com.

Sorry for the loss of your mother, Pat. It sounds like she lived a very full and happy life. You are lucky to have had her around for such a long time.

I grew up next door to the Schroeder family. She was always so kind and sweet to my brother and I. I have fond memories playing with her children. Peace and love to the Schroeder family!
