Daniel Leroy Thorpe, 82, of Rock Island, died Thursday, June 13, 2024.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented.

Dan was born in Moline, IL, on April 10, 1942, a son of Charles F. and Margaret Sheil Thorpe. He married Shirley Ann Sheppard on June 19, 1965 in Rock Island, Illinois.
Dan was a U.S. Army veteran.
He worked at the procuring contracting office for Tank Automotive Command (TACOM) at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1997.
Dan was always proud to step up and help someone whenever he could. He drove veterans to and from the VA Hospital in Iowa City for five years. He enjoyed visiting with people over a meal. In fact, he met his brothers for breakfast every Saturday at Rainy Dayz in Milan. He also enjoyed going to the Stars sandwich shop for lunch.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Thorpe, Rock Island; son, Patrick Thorpe, Rock Island; grandchildren: Eliseo Noriega, Shawn Thorpe and Skylar Thorpe; siblings: Tony (Mary) Thorpe, Chuck (Linda) Thorpe, Bill (Virginia) Thorpe, Margaret (Bob) Harmon, Fran Krahl, Tim (Pam) Thorpe and Dick (Denise) Thorpe; sister-in-law, Janice Thorpe; and brother-in-law, John Fourdyce.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Shawn and Darrell Thorpe; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Thorpe; and siblings: Wally Thorpe, Kathy Fourdyce and James Thorpe.
