Donald H. Frits, 92, of Port Byron, IL, died Friday, December 8, 2023 at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehab, East Moline. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM on December 22nd and for an hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Port Byron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice or the Riverdale Education Foundation to be used for the trap shooting team or the bass fishing team.
Donald was born December 29, 1930, in Stronghurst, IL, the son of Cecil C. and Alice M. (Harris) Frits. He married Carol Hermes on November 3, 1951. Donald worked at International Harvester for 28 years as a Machine Repair Supervisor. He retired from the Illinois High School Association as a referee after 25 years of officiating, including the state basketball tournament and football playoffs.
Donald is survived by his children: Melinda (Stephen) Simpson, Hillsdale, Michael (Beth) Frits, Martinez, GA, Paula Frits, Charlottesville, VA, Ted (Karrie) Frits, Lena, IL; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
