Donald Fuhrer Obituary
June 15, 1941 - August 4, 2025
Funeral services for Donald Lee Fuhrer, 84, of East Moline, Ill., will be 12 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Visitation will be 2 hours prior at the funeral home. Family only burial will be in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Ill. Mr. Fuhrer passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.
Don was born on Father's Day, June 15, 1941, in Winner, S.D. The Fuhrer family moved initially to Colona/Green Rock, and later to East Moline. He met Alice Samson when they both worked at Tri-City Grocery Store. They married on August 20, 1960, in East Moline. She passed away September 13, 1999.
Don worked as a tool maker for International Harvester, and later The Rock Island Arsenal. Because of his love of airplanes, he spent time in retirement working at the Moline Airport.
Don was a member and active leader in the First Baptist Church of East Moline. He was a lifelong member of the UAW, and NRA. He and his dad were private pilots, and members of the Blackhawk Flying Club.
He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, keeping a houseful of cats, watching reruns of Carol Burnett and old westerns, and spending time with family, friends, and anyone who would listen to his stories about airplanes.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Adam) Grennan, Geneva, Ill.; son, Jeffrey Fuhrer, East Moline; grandchildren, Brooke and Noah Grennan; and a brother, Robert "Bobby" Fuhrer, Lake Havasu, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Tillie Fuhrer; and the love of his life, his wife Alice.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, East Moline.
