Frances H. Drews, 87, of Geneseo, IL, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation starting at 9:00 a.m., on May 11, 2024, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Rev. Stephen Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Geneseo.
Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour Ministries.
Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services are assisting the family.
Frances Helen Schmidt was born on June 7, 1936, in rural Deshler, NE, the daughter of Frederick III, and Helene (Krenke) Schmidt. The tenth of 11 children, Frances grew up on the family farm, and her Nebraska roots remained near and dear to her throughout her life.
Frances graduated from Deshler High School and attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE. She was called to teach at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in Danville, IL. Frances married Jack Drews on June 12, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Friedensau, NE. Jack died on August 16, 2008.
Frances was an exceptional cook, kept a large vegetable garden, and taught Sunday school well into her later years.
Her family is grateful to the staff of New Perspective and Genesis Hospice for their care for Frances.
Frances is survived by her children: Tony Drews (Geneseo, IL), Christine Drews (Raymore, MO), and Lisbeth (Tim) Schaubroeck (Colorado Springs, CO); grandchildren: Samantha (Brady) Gordon (Sacramento, CA), Victoria Drews (Moline, IL), Micah, and Adam Schaubroeck (Colorado Springs, CO), and Alyssa and Isabella (Raymore, MO); great-grandchild: Opal Gordon (Sacramento, CA); brother Marvin (Helen) Schmidt (McPherson, KS); brother Fred Schmidt (Deshler, NE); sister-in-law, Ruth Schmidt (Union, MO); and sister-in-law, Claudine Schmidt (Beatrice, NE).
