Fred Immesoete Obituary

Fred Immesoete Jr.

January 16, 1924 - March 28, 2025

Fred Immesoete Jr., of East Moline, Ill., passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville, Iowa, at the young age of 101.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline, Ill. Burial services will be held immediately after at St. Mary's Mausoleum, where military honors will be conducted.

Fred was born on January 16, 1924, in Moline, Ill., the son of Fred and Madelein (Vermeersch) Immesoete. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Army during World War II. He married Betty Jane (Evelyn) Ferkel on January 24, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 1, 1985. On May 10, 1986 he married Berneita Vroman in East Moline, Ill. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2021.

Fred retired from John Deere Harvester Works in 1975 after 33 years. During the late 1940s through the early 1980s he had a dance band known as Freddie's Rhythm Kings and played throughout the Quad Cities and surrounding areas. He was a lifetime member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227 where he served on the Honor Guard and the East End Bolders Club in Moline, Ill.

Fred enjoyed life to the fullest. A handyman at heart, he could fix or build anything (of course, it had to be done his way with plenty of screws and duct tape). He loved boating on the Mississippi, gardening, and entertaining family and friends playing his accordion. He had a way of stirring the pot, with a sparkle in his eyes and a chuckle in his heart.

Survivors include his daughters, Suzanne (Lorin) Soyke, Mary Jane (Dan) VandeVoorde, Janetta (Robert) Hawkins, Patricia (Tony) Lasek, and Catherine (Steven) Lindquist; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, with two on the way; and Berneita's sons, Fred Heeren, Ed and Gene Brooks.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; brother, Raymond; grandson, Matthew Hawkins; and great-grandson, Noah Papish.

Our family would like to thank granddaughter, Kim O'Brien with the Davenport VA Clinic and their VA Home Base Primary Care Team, especially RN Care Manager, Lalo, Genesis Hospice, Good Samaritan Society, and Care Initiatives Hospice Nurse, Jennifer, for their compassionate care of our father.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Disabled American Veterans in remembrance of Fred Immesoete.

Mary Lindquist Florence

Catherine, I did not know your father, but see you are married to a Lindquist. My father Harold Lindquist was from Minnesota and he said he had family that moved to Illinois. We never found them. Just wonder if your husband is a relative.
