George Hutton Greenley

ROCK ISLAND-George Hutton Greenley, 82, of Rock Island, passed away at Friendship Manor on Friday, October 21, 2022.
A memorial celebration of life service with meal following will be held at Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities ("MCC QC") on Saturday, November 12 at 4:00 pm. Memorials may be made to MCC QC, 2930 W Locust, Davenport, IA 52804.
George was born May 29, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, to Kenneth Fredrick and Gladys (Hutton) Greenley. George attended Colorado State College at Greeley (now Northern Colo. Univ.). He worked at the opening of the Seattle World's Fair before serving in the United States Navy. He retired from Modern Woodmen of America after 30 years. George worked for Johannes Bus Service and volunteered with American Red Cross and Honor Flight Quad Cities.
George was a lifelong world traveler, having visited all seven continents, over 30 foreign nations and every state of the United States, usually with friends and family. For many years, George hosted Mississippi River parties on his cabin cruiser "GG." He owned a home and rental property in Rock Island, where he hosted Memorial Day parties as guests watched the parade from his front lawn.
George participated in the March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation in 1993. Greenley was a member and avid supporter of MCC QC, and numerous other local charities. George worked hard and partied hard, often pulling pranks on those he loved. He served on the Grounds Committee at Friendship Manor.
Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Helen Greenley (Colorado Springs), a special friend, Richard Haynes (Denver), nieces Sarah and Laura Greenley, and many friends.
George's playful spirit and generous nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
