Herbert Cecil Thompson was born May 9, 1931, in Forest City, Iowa, to Gilbert and Clara (Charlson) Thompson. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1949, where he was on the All State Basketball Team. He continued his basketball career at the University of Iowa where he was team captain and named MVP in his senior year. At Iowa, he met Floy Ann Kensinger, and the couple married on June 14, 1953, in Tama, Iowa. After college, he served in the US Air Force for two years. Herb was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, Moline Rotary Club, and Quad City Area Real Estate Association. Very sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Thompson, I say Mr. Thompson because I always thought of him with a lot of respect. He affected a lot of people in positive ways directly & indirectly. I never heard a negative comment about him, which is not surprising knowing how he lived his life. My thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time.

My heart is deeply saddened by the loss of this fine man. Herb and I worked together 30 years ago at the Mel Foster office in Moline. He once went with me to an appointment in Fulton to see an old house that the owner thought could be a hotel. We didn't take the listing, but for years had a good laugh that we were in every room of the Fulton Hotel! Herb was someone you could trust and of fine character. May you, his family, be comforted by the example he set and the fond memories of a life well-lived.
