James Bumann
October 25, 1937 - May 13, 2024
James (Jim) Michael Bumann, passed away on May 13, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo.
He was born October 25, 1937, in Moline, to Herman and Bessie (Johnson) Bumann. He grew up in Andover, IL, graduating from Orion High School. He served in the United States Army Reserves.
In 1959, he married Carol Jinks. From this union three children were born, Dane, Orinda, and Shannon. Although they later divorced, they remained friends. Jim later married Sharon Raske. They went on to have two children, Kristine and Jon.
Jim worked at John Deere Industrial in Moline before moving to Sterling to open a Sandy's Restaurant. Upon returning to Cambridge he opened a Dog and Suds Drive-in.
He worked a position he was very proud of at Quad-Cities Die Casting as Plant Manager. It was from this job that he retired in the early nineties.
Those surviving are his sisters: Karen and Katherine; along with his five children: Dane Bumann, Orinda (Brian) Benbow, Shannon (Chris) Bumann, Kristine (Jeff) Osberg, and Jon Bumann. He is also survived by grandchildren: DeeDee, Danielle, Noah, Heidi, Jack, William, Thomas, Landon, Mason, and Isabella. As well as great-grandchildren: Brendan, Owen, and one due in June (Emersyn).
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings: Mary Ann and Larry.
Jim was a kind man. He loved his family and would scour local newspapers looking for articles about his children and grandchildren showcasing their accomplishments. Of these, he would cut them out and display them to be shared. He was also an avid golfer. And a collector of all things golf. His collection of golf paraphernalia was evident throughout his boyhood home. The home he purchased shortly after retirement in his hometown of Andover. It was there where he was able to look out at the lake he grew up across from and enjoy its beauty.
No services are planned per Jim's request. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
