Joseph F. Lopez III, 67, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at his home.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2025 at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Joe was born December 18, 1957 in Rock Island, the son of Joseph, Jr. and Joan (Hanner) Lopez.

Joe was a 1975 Alleman High School graduate. He retired as a Supervisor of Quad City Freight Services in 2021. In retirement he worked for the last four years at Advance Auto Parts, Rock Island where he was affectionately known as Coconut Joe.

Joe was a long time member of Rock Island Moose Club with his parents, grandparents and siblings.

Early on Joe was a great athlete. He played basketball at Alleman High school and went on to play for years in the Mexican American Basketball League where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008. He was a diehard Bears, Bulls and Cubs fan and looked forward to trips to Chicago for home games.

Joe loved golfing especially the annual Father's Day outing with his dad and uncle Ritchie's boys. He enjoyed family gatherings and even stepped up to play Santa for all the kids on Christmas.

Post retirement Joe indulged in trips with his granddaughter, Autumn and family to Disneyworld and visits to Texas and Florida to see his lifelong friend, Jerry who even talked him into skydiving. He also enjoyed socializing with his circle of friends at Po' Boys, Rock Island.

Survivors include his children, Joseph (Rachel) Lopez IV, Moline and Josh Lopez Moline; sisters, Vicki (Russ Royce) Terronez, Cedar Rapids, IA, Valrie (Paul) Sausedo, Silvis and Vanessa Lopez, Swisher, IA; and brother, Jason (Cathy) Lopez, Cedar Rapids, IA and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
