Joyce Elaine Tobin
June 20, 1934 - May 6, 2024
Joyce Elaine Tobin, 89, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, died Monday, May 6, 2024, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home in Kewanee, IL.
A private family visitation will be held at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown. There will be no funeral service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.
Joyce was born June 20, 1934, in Ottumwa, IA, to Russell Arthur and Katherine Rosetta (Morgan) Hoffman. She was a graduate of Moline High School in Moline, IL. She married Thomas P. Tobin on June 23, 1983, in Chicago, IL. They lived in the Gold Coast neighborhood downtown Chicago and were married for 31 years until Thomas's passing on November 12, 2014.
Joyce was a dedicated professional who served as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of Cook County in Chicago, IL. Prior to that, she was a hostess at Carson's steak house in Chicago.
Joyce was known throughout her neighborhood in Chicago for her amazing rum cakes and her generous gratuity to anyone in the service industry. She was an avid Jimmy Buffet fan and enjoyed hosting fellow "Parrot-heads" at her cabana by the pool in their Gold Coast neighborhood. After Tom's passing she then moved to Prophetstown to be closer to her family. To her family she was known for coming down from Chicago and picking up the grandchildren, whom she affectionately referred to as "hooligans," to go "bumming" (McDonald's, toy shopping, bowling, and movie theater). Later she became famous for her dedication in throwing the best graduation, birthday and occasional Margaritaville parties. She never hesitated to load her car with Chicago's best offerings of Italian ingredients and head to the quad cities to cook and ensure each party went off without a hitch.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Nancy Orendorff (Tim Sass) of Bettendorf, IA; four grandsons: Anthony Orendorff (Jaynie) of Port Byron, IL, Andrew Orendorff (Caroline Reinwald) of Milwaukee, WI, Peter Polito (Chelsie) of Bettendorf, IA, and Vinny Polito (Kara) of Broomfield, CO; three granddaughters: Amy (Jim) Finn of Bettendorf, IA, MaryKate (Dakota) Warnken of Kansas City, MO and Stephanie (Greg) Steinwolf of Broomfield, CO; two nieces: Jodi (Rik Wolterbeek) McCaw of Prophetstown, IL, and Judy (Steve) Spahn of Bluegrass, IA; one great-niece, Jennifer (Bill) Crumley of Tiffin, IA; one great-nephew, Brady McCaw of Eldridge, IA.
