Longtime Edgington Resident Dies at 95.

Marie Zeman (Lewis) was born September 16, 1930, in LaSalle County, Illinois, to Frank and Annabelle Zeman. She passed on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the age of 95, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. She had resided there since March 2025, where she was welcomed and adored by staff members, residents, and their families.

After marrying Lyle Lewis in 1950, Marie moved to Edgington, Illinois, where she lived for over 75 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1996.

Known affectionately as "Grams," Marie was a cherished presence in her community. As her children grew, the Edgington home was always the place to be-from her son's rock bands practicing, to Karen's friends gathering there for nights out, everyone was welcomed. While Dawn was in high school, her and her friends would meet there for lunch breaks most days. And later, when Kate's friends arrived, they inevitably met her "Grams."

Marie loved tending her flowers, caring for animals, and quietly observing life from her patio. Summers were spent at home, and winters in the warmth of Southwest Florida. She loved fishing and found joy in every catch, whether a walleye in the Midwest or a sheepshead or stingray in the Gulf of Mexico.

She is survived by her children, Lyle A. (Diana) Lewis of Ocala, Florida, Karen (Oly) Anderson of Edgington, and Dawn (Kevin) Chard of Milan; and her granddaughter, Kate Anderson (Chris Fuhr) of Illinois City. She was preceded in death by her parents; and many siblings.

Per her request, there will be no service or visitation. A private burial will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to QCPaws, QCAWC, Animal Aid, or an animal charity of the donor's choice.
