EAST MOLINE-Nellie S. Jones-Thompson, 73, of East Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday August 18, 2021 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Live-Streamed services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, and may be viewed at wheelanpressly.com/live-stream-Rock Island. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.
Nellie was born June 17, 1948 in Humboldt, TN, a daughter of Robert L. Jones, Sr. and Bertha M. Gant Jones. She married Jerome B. Thompson on May 16, 1987 in Rock Island.
Nellie worked at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 32 years.
She attended Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Golden Circle, Daughters of Isis and Rock Island Elks Lodge.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Jerome, of East Moline; children, Angela Jones, Rock Island and Michael Jones, Houston, TX; stepchildren, Jerry Rushin, Virginia, Germaine Williams, Pittsburgh, PA, and LaConya Thompson, Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Tianna Jones, Aviana Jones-Townser, Anastasia Jones-Townser, Samara Jones and Michaela Jones; great-grandchild, Amir Jones; siblings, Allen Jones, Rock Island, Dorothy McElroy, Rock Island, Willie Jones, Minnesota, and Mattie Seward, Rock Island; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert Jones, Jr., James Jones, Eddie Jones and Bobby Jones; and her sisters Freddie Jones and Clara Steward.
