Roger Torrence Obituary

Roger Michael Torrence III

September 24, 1984 - August 22, 2024

We are devastated to announce the passing of our son, Roger "Michael" Torrence III, age 39. Michael was born on September 24, 1984, and unexpectedly passed away from complications from a brain seizure at his parent's home on August 22, 2024. Michael was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched throughout his life.

He is survived by his parents, Roger Michael and Monica Ann (Terrigino) Torrence; sisters, Stacie Reed and Stephanie Hotz; nieces and nephews: Haylie (Justin) Roth, Andrew Torrence-Reed, Preston Reed, Maddison Hotz, Alexia Hotz, and Gavin Reinkin all living in Iowa; maternal grandmother, Joyce Terrigino; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. He also leaves behind his twin flame and significant other, Andrea Halverson; dear friend, Armand "Sal" Salvatore; and college buddies, Joe Craven, Justin Reising, and Steven Mueller. Michael was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Roger and Betty Torrence and maternal grandfather, Anthony V Terrigino.

Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Michael lived in several different locations throughout the United States as his parents served in the US Army and Department of Defense. His childhood was spent in Rosemount, Minn., Indianapolis, Ind., and Orlando, Fla. He attended King College in Bristol Tennessee where he earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Management and Master of Business Administration. He later moved to Knoxville, Tenn., where he spent the last seven years of his life. During his high school and college years he excelled on the Baseball field. Michael exemplified strength and determination, earning the respect and admiration of all those who had the pleasure of playing alongside him or against him, for he possessed a rarity - the perfect balance of competitiveness and sportsmanship.

Michael loved his family and friends and would make a point to tell them that he loved and appreciated them as often as possible. His infectious smile and laugh had the power to illuminate the darkest corners of any room, spreading warmth and joy to those around him. Michael possessed the ability to make people feel valued, appreciated, and most importantly, seen. A free spirit, world traveler, and cat Dad to KiKi Bean he lived life on his own terms.

In lieu of flowers or donations keep the family in your thoughts and Michael would want you to express your love to those you value in life.

We meet the Torrence's through Baseball at Dr. Phillips YMCA in Orlando Florida.
We had a lot in common, our families had two daughters before we had our sons and we loved baseball. Whenever you saw Big Mike you saw little Mike. I am Big Wayne and my son is little Wayne. Our families spent many hours volunteering at the baseball complex, the wives running the concession stand as the boys coached and played baseball. What good memories. The boys became good friends. It was always good when we were on the same team. Lil Mike was always in a good spirit and liked to win. I remember the first time he switch hit in a game and got a single. You would have thought he had won a million dollars he was so happy. I remember the shiny black Monty Carlo that lil Mike said was going to be his one day, with the back full of catching gear and bats. Both of our boys were catchers and long ball hitters. High school and college separated them from being classmates, but they remained friends. My son was born on Big Mikes birthday. Little mike was born on my wife Sandra's birthday. She always mentions that it is little Mikes birthday as well, so we will always think of Mike on this Day as we have for so many years. Now we will think of Little Mike at least two times a year on his birthday and the day he passed, August 22 my Birthday.
