NEW WINDOSR-Russell A. "Rusty" Scharer, 82, of New Windsor, Illinois, died Sunday, May 28, 2023, at River Crossing of Moline.
Private burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
Russell Allen Scharer was born January 5, 1941, in Moline, the son of Max and Adeline (Popp) Scharer. He worked in/managed several area bars/night clubs. Most recently, he worked for Dell Computers in security.
He was an avid gardener and will always remembered for his vegetables that he freely shared with neighbors and friends.
Rusty is survived by three siblings, Judy Turner of Joliet, Illinois, Sue Johnson of Rock Island, and Ron Scharer of Fulton, Illinois; his "son", Shawn Mayton (Scharer) of Davenport; his good friend, Billy Dean Collins of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Marlin and Harvey Scharer.
The family would like to give special thanks to Russell's friends and neighbors for their friendship and care given to him over the years.

I'm saddened by the loss of such a wonderful cousin. He never forgot about me and my family and always sent Christmas cards every year. I will miss his kindness and his radiant smile.
