Shirley Suarez
October 21, 1939 - February 20, 2025
Shirley Ann Suarez, 85, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 20, 2025.
Funeral service will be 12 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Grace Presbyterian Church, Rock Island with visitation one hour prior to service at church. The inurnment will be private. The service will be followed with a joyful Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. at the Axis Hotel in Moline.
Shirley was born to Tom and Ann Glover on October 21, 1939, in Spring Valley, Ill. She grew up in DePue, Ill. with her brother, Tommy and with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends nearby. She graduated from DePue High School and married the love of her life, Gene who proceeded her in death on August 1, 2024. Shirley and Gene were married for 66 years and had three children.
She worked at Morrison Weighing Systems where she met one of her lifelong dear friends, Jan Morrison. Shirley always had a special gift for nurturing meaningful, lasting relationships with those around her. She stayed active in the community by volunteering at The Church of Peace Food Pantry, Rock Island Junior Woman's Club, the Children's Literacy program along with many other committees at South Park Presbyterian Church, and reading to the elderly at Friendship Manor.
Shirley's greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. She was "like a Mom" to many friends of her three children and cooked for anyone who visited their home. Her homemade lasagna and enchiladas were legendary in the neighborhood.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters; Maryann (Paul) Gatti, Arlington, Tenn.; Brenda (Jeff) Richerson, Venice Fla.; granddaughter; Alayna Linton, Sarasota Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; Tom and Ann Glover; brother, Tommy Glover; husband, Gene Suarez; and son, Joe Suarez.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the
charity of the donor's choice.
