SHEFFIELD-Steven William Bomleny, 70, of Sheffield, IL, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel. Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Steve Bomleny Memorial Fund where funds will be distributed amongst Steve's favorite organizations.
Steve was born on September 27, 1951, the son of Bill and Maxine (Scott) Bomleny, in Kewanee, IL. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1970. Steve married Elaine Lauwagie on June 1, 1974, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan, IL. Steve worked as a mechanic at John Deere and farmed the family farm for many years. He enjoyed playing in volleyball tournaments and leagues with his friends, worked with bee's since he was in grade school, was a former fireman with the Camp Grove Unit of the Bradford Fire Department, loved working on old John Deere tractors and had several he planned to restore, was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheffield, and was very proud of his 1969 Chevelle. His true passion was farming, and especially loved spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Maxine Bomleny; loving wife, Elaine; children, Amy (Justin) Hardin, Orion, Greg (Emily) Bomleny, Millstedt, Lori (Andy) Franks, Cedar Rapids, IA, Jeff (Jenny Femali) Bomleny, Atkinson, and Mark (Brooke) Bomleny, Prophetstown, grandchildren; Brayden and Adelyn Hardin; Ben, Belle, Blake and Brock Bomleny, Katie, Nora, and Drew Franks, Maddie (Nick) Anderson, Tori Femali; Beau, Morgan, Jamie, Stella and Josie Bomleny; sisters, Sue (Dennis) Taylor, and Mary Ann (Brett) Shatto; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bill Bomleny; grandson, Samuel James Bomleny; and mother and father-in law, Nora and Peter Lauwagie.
